Wilpattu National Park
Wilpattu is largest national park in Sri Lanka. A unique feature of Wilpattu national park is that the entire park is dotted with large sand rimmed natural lakes known as “Villus”. The Villus collects rain water and tends to attract wildlife especially during the times of drought. Wilpattu has an exceptional diversity and density of animals and birds you can discover. It is home to 31 species of mammals including the Sri Lankan elephant, sloth bear, leopard and water Buffalo. Reptiles, such as rat snakes, Indian python, common cobra, mugger crocodile, pond turtle and soft-shelled turtle, can be spotted here also, as well as various species of birds, including garganey, pin tail, whistling teal, spoonbill, white ibis, large white egret, cattle egret and purple heron.
